Total Body Wellness and Resistance Training
Resistance Training is the process of exercising with resistance for the purpose of strengthening the musculoskeletal system.
At Total Body Wellness in Albuquerque’s North Valley you have the opportunity to train with resistance a number of ways.
- In a Pilates mat, Yoga or GYROKINESIS® class you will use your own weight for resistance.
- When using the Pilates Equipment, the Reformer, Cadillac or Wunda Chair the resistance is spring based.
- When training in GYROTONIC®, you will use the resistance of the weight plates.
- When Fitness Training you will use free weights and weighted bars in a private or semi-private session or in a Pilates Sculpt class.
Adding Resistance Training to your exercise regime will:
- Increase muscle strength, bone strength, endurance and stamina
- Increase lean muscle mass
- Increase metabolic rate causing our body to burn more calories even at rest

Resistance Training has also been shown to:
- Improve glucose metabolism
- Lower resting blood pressure
- Improve blood lipid levels
- Ease arthritic pain

When combined with cardiovascular exercise and good eating habits Resistance Training will:
- Help to maintain a healthy weight
