500 Hour Pilates Matwork and Equipment Program 

75 Hour Pilates Matwork Program

 

back row on cadillacThe Total Body Wellness Teacher Training Program in Albuquerque was created by Jeanette Harris and is based upon the classical work of  Joseph Pilates as well as his protégé Eve Gentry.

The Total Body Wellness Teacher Training is a program that focuses on developing the ability to teach the individual, addressing their particular needs versus just teaching the exercises or leading classes.

 

It is the goal of Total body Wellness to make Teacher training more affordable and more easily achievable for the person seeking certification.


The fee is all inclusive of classes, private sessions, observation, student teaching and in studio interning with the exception of the Test Out, Materials and Studio Rental for student teaching. 

After initial deposit, Course fee can be paid monthly for up to 12 months or until the PMA Test is taken which ever comes first.

 

 

This 500 hour program will prepare the successful candidate to take the Pilates Method Alliance Teacher Certification and to teach both mat work classes and private Pilates sessions. The pre-requisite for this program is an intermediate level of practice and understanding of  Levels I-II equipment and Levels I-IV Pilates mat work exercises.  (In order to teach equipment classes or post-rehab clients, additional training is required.)

 

500 Hour Pilates Matwork and Equipment Program consists of the following requirements for completion:


110 hours Private Training with Jeanette Harris – (average of 2 sessions per week)
60 hours self-practice on the equipment - Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair and Auxilary equipment.
40 hours Workshop - Workshop hours consist of Anatomy, Practical Applications, Contraindications, Client Evaluation and Analysis and Teaching a Client
55 hours mat class attendance (average of 1 class per week but you are encouraged to take more)
125 hours observation - (You are encouraged to observe no less than 2 -3 hours per week)
35 hours free student teaching
75 hours paid student teaching
Total of 500

Final Testing consists of the following:

Written Exam Written exam is a preparatory exam for the PMA test and will prepare you for questions that you might find on the test.  Exam will be taken at Total Body Wellness, 6501 4th Street NW, Ste G, Abq, NM 87107.  Written exam should be taken before the Practical.

Practical Exam Students are asked to perform a Level IV Mat workout or Level IV reformer workout using the Total Body Wellness order of exercises; the examiner chooses the workout the student will perform. In addition, student may be asked to perform other exercises from the Total Body Wellness syllabus on other pieces of equipment. The student may be asked to demonstrate safe equipment setup, exercise execution, or correct spotting technique for specific exercises.

Teaching Test Students will teach a 55 minute Pilates Method lesson to a client provided by the examiner. The lesson will be based on the particular needs of the client. Also, the student submits a written defense of this lesson, an evaluation of the client, and a 3-month lesson plan. This shall be submitted no later than one-week after the session.

 

 

The 75-hour Pilates mat work program will prepare the successful candidate to teach Pilates mat work classes.  The pre-requisite for this program is a knowledge and ability to perform levels I-IV Pilates mat work exercises.


12 Private Sessions

28 Pilates Mat Class

10 Workshop Hours  (Workshop hours will consist of  Contraindications, Basic Anatomy, Client Evaluation, Teaching the Client, Use of Props in Mat Work)

 

15 Hours Assistant Teaching/Observation

10 Hours Student Teaching

 

 

Final Testing consists of the following:

Written
The final written exam will be given at The Total Body Wellness Studio, 6501 4th Street NW, Ste G, Abq, NM 87107 .  The written test should be completed prior to the teaching test.

Practical
Student performance Test. Students are asked to perform a Level IV Mat workout using the classical order of exercises.

Teaching
Students will teach a 60- minute Pilates Mat lesson to a client or small group provided by the examiner. The lesson will be based on the particular needs of the client(s). Also, the student submits a written defense of this lesson and an evaluation of the client. Also, the student submits a three month lesson plan for a beginning Mat group class.

 




To qualify for either program,  candidate must write a letter of intent, provide a resume and letter of recommendation, complete an interview and sign an agreement to complete the program
